ITINERARY

Day 1 – Casablanca
Today is a free day to rest up from your journey and explore Casablanca’s city center where your hotel is located.
Depending on the arrival time, your tour leader would be available to take you on an optional walking tour of some Casablanca highlights or to a café at the beach for a late lunch in the afternoon.

We intentionally keep this afternoon flexible and low-key on your arrival day.
6:30 pm: A trip overview with your tour leader in the lobby of your hotel.
7:30pm: Dinner. After this important meeting,
you may choose to have dinner or drink at Rick’s Café from the movie Casablanca.

Day 2 – Casablanca – Essaouira
Casablanca Mosque7:30 am: Breakfast
8:20 am: Meet in the lobby with your luggage, checked out of the hotel, and ready for departure.
8:30 am Short drive to the famous Hassan II mosque for a guided tour. This is the only mosque in Morocco that non-Muslims can enter and it’s quite spectacular.
10:30 – 11:00 am: Depart from the mosque to Essaouira. Departure time may vary depending on the exact start time of our mosque tour.
1:30 – 2:30pm: Lunch at a roadside restaurant.
5:00 – 6:00 pm: Check-in at your hotel in Essaouira. Please note there will be a 10-minute walk from the parking lot to the hotel as vehicles are not permitted in the Essaouira medina. Your tour leader will arrange and pay for a porter to transport your luggage.
6:00 – 7:30 pm: Free time to relax and get ready for dinner.
7:30 pm: Meet in the lobby to walk through the ancient city with your tour leader and have dinner at a local restaurant or café recommended by your tour leader, or another restaurant of your choice.
10:00 pm:
You will be dropped off at your hotel. Overnight and breakfast at Riad Mimouna

Day 3 – Essaouira
8:00 am: Breakfast will be served at the roof-top restaurant of the hotel. 9:00 am: Meet in the lobby to explore Essaouira with a certified guide.
1:00 – 2:00pm: Lunch is picnic style. You pick and choose fresh fish just caught on the docks. It is cooked and served on picnic tables with Moroccan salad and bread. Or, your tour leader can recommend a local restaurant.
2:30 – 5:00 pm: Free time to relax or explore on your own.
5:00 pm: Cooking class at the roof-top restaurant with the chef at your hotel. Dinner will be served when the food is ready. You will learn how to make a Moroccan chopped salad and fish tajine that you will have for dinner (fresh catch of the day). Please note that the restaurant does not serve wine. If you wish, you may purchase wine during your market trip with the chef. Please make sure to mention if you are interested, as the shops close before dinner.

7:30 – 8:00pm: Dinner

Day Trip to Essaouira
Day 4 – Essaouira to Ourika valley / high Atlas Mountains
Moroccan Fish Tagine8:00am: Breakfast will be served at the roof-top restaurant of the hotel.
9:30am: Please ensure that you are checked out of the hotel and your luggage is in the lobby. Your tour
leader will arrange for your luggage to be transferred to the van.
Enjoy this free morning to explore the town or visit the souk on your own. Or, your tour leader can arrange for you to take a 30 minute camel ride on the beach.
12:30 – 1:30pm: Lunch at a café in Essaouira. Your tour leader will be happy to recommend a restaurant. 1:30pm: Meet your tour leader in the main plaza near the parking lot or at the restaurant where you will
be having lunch and they will escort you to the van.
1:45pm: Departure to Ourika Valley for a 3.5 hour ride, plus a 30-45 minute visit to an Argan oil cooperative. Also, along the way, your tour leader will make a brief stop to pick up some Moroccan pastries for a tasty snack in the van.
6:00pm: Arrival at Kasbah Omar at the Ourika Valley.
6:15 – 7:30pm: Check into the kasbah, relax and get ready for dinner. 7:30pm: Dinner at roof-top restaurant of the kasbah.

Day 5 – – High Atlas Mountains & Souk
7:30am: Breakfast will be served at the roof-top restaurant.
8:30am: A 45-minute walk with your donkey, through the olive groves near the Ourika River, to shop for organic vegetables at the market where all Berbers of the valley meet for their weekly shopping. We will also visit the local elementary school and pass out school supplies children. Trips in September or June will visit the preschool/daycare in Anrar)
11:30am: Walk the groceries back to the Kasbah with the donkey and enjoy a BBQ lunch when you arrive.
12:30 – 1:00pm: Get ready for lunch.
1:00pm – 2:00pm: Lunch
2:00 – 4:30pm: Relax at the Kasbah before the next cooking class.
4:30pm: Cooking class to learn how to make Moroccan Salads & Beef Tagine with Roasted Almond + Chicken with Lemon & Olives. 7:30 or 8 pm: Dinner

Trekking the High Atlas Mountains
DAY 6 – Ourika Valley – Anrar & Setti Fatma
Morocco Culinary Journey7:00am: Morning cooking class over a cup of coffee to learn how to make Berber crepes; if you want to make the dough, please come to the rooftop at 6:45am, otherwise your chef will make the dough and you will learn how to flatten and fold it.
8:00am: Breakfast will be served when the crepes are ready.
9:00am: Walking tour of village and tea at the end of the tour with a local family.
10:30am: You may choose to drive to Setti Fatma for a moderate to strenuous 7 km hike to waterfall (3 hours total, including a picnic lunch). Or, if the weather is warm and nice, you may opt to go to Setti Fatma, have lunch, and relax by the river until the hikers return. Or you may choose to enjoy the Kasbah for the afternoon.
4:30pm: Time to relax and get ready for your next cooking class.
4:30 – 8:00pm: Cooking class to learn how to make Moroccan soup and couscous.
8:00pm: Dinner

DAY 7 – High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech
8:00am: Breakfast at the Kasbah’s roof-top restaurant
9:00am: Please be checked out with your luggage downstairs for departure to Marrakech.
10:00am: You will meet with your local guide and begin your city tour, including the the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the Koutoubia Mosque. Your driver will transfer your luggage to the riad while you are touring.
1:00pm: Lunch at one of the restaurants in Djemaa el-Fna square with the locals.
2:00 – 5:00pm: A walking tour of the ancient souk (market) including a visit to Ben Youssef Madrasa, a
historic Koran school.
5:00pm – 7:00pm: We understand that some people are more interested in shopping than others so we have intentionally created this break during your tour of Marrakech. Those who are inclined to shop may continue on with your city guide to see the local artisans and their crafts.
For those not interested in shopping, you may explore Djemaa el-Fna square and enjoy a cup of tea at a roof top café on your own, or your trip leader will accompany you back to the riad to relax or enjoy the pool before dinner.
8:00pm: Departure from the riad to the Djemaa el-Fna square for dinner. You may choose to go with your guide to a traditional Moroccan restaurant in the square or you may opt to be dropped off for a more upscale dinner at Al Fassia or Comptoir Darma restaurant ($40 to $50 pp not including drinks).
10:00pm: Transfer from restaurant to hotel.

DAY 8 – Marrakech
Morocco Culinary Journey
8:00 – 10:00am: Breakfast and relaxed morning.
10:00am: Your tour leader will take you to a spice shop for an explanation of the various spices that you
have used in your recipes and that you may want to take home for future use.
11:00am: Take a tour around the ancient city wall & Marrakech palm grove, including a 30 minute visit to the Yves St Laurent gardens.
12:30pm: Lunch at a local restaurant.
1:30 – 3:00pm: Free time to relax at the riad, or more shopping at the souk with the guide, or you may choose to explore the Djemaa el-Fna square on your own. This is also an excellent opportunity to go to a traditional Moroccan hammam, or hot bath. (Please let your trip leader know if you would like this experience in advance, so he can make reservations.)
3:15 – 6:00pm: Cooking class with a Moroccan family to learn how to make the famous Chicken Moroccan Pastilla
6:30pm: Farewell dinner
8:00pm: Optional cup of tea or coffee at one of the roof top cafes at the square with a view of the ancient city, a great way to say goodbye to Morocco. 10:00pm: Transfer back to the riad.

DAY 9 – Marrakech
Breakfast at the palace starts at 6:30am. You can choose when to eat based on your airport transfer time. Your tour leader will have spoken with you the day before about when he will pick you up for your airport transfer. Morocco Cooking Tour
